Pinnacle Plus MYGA: compare the rate period with your need for cash
Delaware Life Pinnacle Plus is a multi-year guaranteed annuity, or MYGA. It uses a fixed interest rate for a selected guarantee period rather than an index-linked crediting formula. The useful comparison starts with how long you can commit the money and what access you need during that period.
First Freedom Life is an independent insurance brokerage, not Delaware Life. This is education for a possible new purchase, not a current rate quote or existing-contract service. A named product is not a promise of availability in every state or distribution channel.
One product, several guarantee periods
The Pinnacle Plus consumer brochure describes three-, five-, seven- and ten-year choices. Confirm which are currently offered for your state, age, premium and account type. Review the actual guaranteed rate and effective date with the selected period.
A longer period can address a different need from a shorter one. Ask what happens if rates rise after purchase, if you need the money earlier, or if your intended retirement date changes. Compare the complete contract rather than picking a period solely because a quoted percentage is larger.
How a MYGA differs from an indexed annuity
The consumer product page identifies Pinnacle Plus as a fixed annuity. You are not choosing an index cap or participation formula. The fixed guarantee and the insurer's obligations are central to the decision.
That simplicity does not remove withdrawal restrictions. Compare guaranteed accumulation, cash available on an early exit, and the money you will keep outside the annuity. A MYGA should not become the emergency account for expenses you already expect.
Free withdrawals are limited by the contract
The companion product snapshot explains free-withdrawal, surrender and market value adjustment provisions. The timing of the allowance matters. Ask which amount is available in the first year, which amount applies later, and how required minimum distributions are treated.
Taking more than the allowance can create surrender charges or an adjustment. Request the estimated cash payable for an early withdrawal in the year that concerns you. Compare the actual dollars with the contract's account value.
Illness or care waivers have eligibility and state-specific requirements. A general description of a waiver is not proof that a particular expense qualifies. Relief from a contract charge also does not make a withdrawal tax-free.
Plan the end of the guarantee period before it arrives
Ask how the insurer will notify you, what election window applies, and what happens if you make no election. Review the choices for taking money out, continuing under new terms or evaluating another arrangement. Do not assume today's rate remains available for a later period.
Put the relevant dates on your own calendar once the actual contract is issued. If you already own Pinnacle Plus, request your contract-specific maturity and servicing information directly from the insurer's official channel. This page does not submit or process an election.
What if the money is in an IRA?
The Investor.gov annuity overview discusses costs, insurance-company guarantees and long-term considerations. A MYGA is not a bank deposit and is not FDIC-insured. An IRA already provides tax deferral; an annuity inside it must be considered for other contract benefits.
For former-employer money, verify your available plan choices, account eligibility and tax consequences before any transfer. For an existing annuity, compare lost benefits and surrender costs before considering replacement. An inquiry does not authorize a rollover or move assets.
Bring your state, account type, intended period, planned withdrawals and existing statements. Our Delaware Life carrier comparison provides broader context. Discuss fixed-annuity options with First Freedom Life to review the relevant insurance questions before applying.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pinnacle Plus a fixed indexed annuity?
No. The reviewed consumer materials identify it as a fixed multi-year guaranteed annuity with a selected interest-rate guarantee period.
Will my original rate necessarily continue after the guarantee period?
Do not assume it will. Confirm the end-of-period choices, notice and election window in your actual contract and current insurer communications.
Does free withdrawal mean no taxes?
No. A contract allowance can waive specified surrender charges or adjustments. Tax treatment is a separate issue that requires individual review.
Is Pinnacle Plus FDIC-insured like a bank deposit?
No. It is an insurance contract, and its guarantees depend on the issuing insurer’s financial strength and claims-paying ability.
