Target Growth 10: accumulation and access belong in the same comparison

Delaware Life Target Growth 10 is a fixed index annuity for long-term retirement savings. A useful review compares how interest is credited with what happens if you need to withdraw money. Index names and a favorable illustration cannot answer both questions.

First Freedom Life is an independent insurance brokerage, not Delaware Life. This guide explains questions for a possible new purchase; it does not service existing contracts or provide a current rate quote. Availability and suitability require individual confirmation.

How the crediting choices work

The current consumer product page describes individual index-linked strategies, a fixed account and preset Precision Portfolios. An index-linked allocation is an insurance crediting choice, not ownership of an index or its underlying securities.

Ask which cap, participation rate or other formula applies to each allocation. The percentage credited to the annuity can differ substantially from an index's published return. For a preset allocation, ask which strategies it includes, when the election can be changed and how later premium payments are handled.

Compare current terms and contractual renewal provisions separately. An attractive opening declaration does not make future crediting terms identical. Request a plain explanation of each unfamiliar formula before choosing an allocation.

The bailout provision has a specific trigger

The Target Growth 10 consumer brochure describes a bailout linked to the renewal cap on a specified S&P 500 strategy falling below the contract's bailout cap. It is a conditional exit feature, not an unrestricted right to leave whenever another product looks better.

Ask which trigger applies to the actual contract, how you would be notified, which election window applies, and what charges are waived when the conditions are met. Keep the answer with the proposal so you can distinguish the initial cap, a later renewal cap and the bailout threshold.

Review the surrender schedule and cash available

The companion product snapshot sets out surrender, withdrawal and market value adjustment provisions. Request the applicable state schedule and the cash surrender amount for an exit in a specific year. Account value and the amount payable after an early surrender can differ.

A free-withdrawal allowance means relief from specified contract charges under its rules; it does not mean tax-free money. Review required minimum distribution treatment, the timing of withdrawals and any waiver eligibility against the actual contract. Keep emergency reserves outside money committed for a long period.

Accumulation is different from an income election

Do not read a growth illustration as a guaranteed future paycheck. If your goal is lifetime income, request a separate explanation of the available payout method, when it begins, survivor terms and what happens to accessible cash and the death benefit. Annuitizing a contract is a different decision from making periodic withdrawals.

Write down the job the annuity must perform: hold savings for later, cover a future income gap, or complement other retirement resources. That helps compare Target Growth 10 with a fixed-rate choice, a contract with different income benefits, and retaining an existing arrangement.

Before using IRA or former-employer retirement money

The Investor.gov annuity overview discusses costs, long-term considerations and the issuing insurer's ability to meet its obligations. An annuity inside an IRA does not add a second layer of tax deferral. Its insurance features and restrictions need to justify the choice.

Bring your state, account type, planned income date, expected withdrawals and any existing annuity statement. Check plan eligibility, transfer mechanics, taxes, lost benefits and surrender charges before moving money. An inquiry does not initiate a rollover or authorize a replacement.

For the broader family, see our Delaware Life annuity comparison. Discuss annuity choices with First Freedom Life to review the questions relevant to your situation. Current contract documents, access and suitability must be confirmed before an application.

Frequently asked questions

What type of annuity is Target Growth 10?

It is a fixed index annuity. Interest crediting follows the contract’s formulas; buying the annuity is not direct ownership of an index or its underlying securities.

Does the bailout provision let me leave whenever I want?

No. It depends on a specified renewal cap falling below the contractual bailout threshold and following the applicable election rules. Confirm the trigger and window in the actual documents.

Is an illustration a guaranteed return?

No. Distinguish hypothetical performance from contractual guarantees, current declarations and future renewal provisions.

Can I move an old 401(k) into this contract immediately?

Do not initiate a move solely from this guide. Review plan choices, eligibility, tax treatment, available reserves and suitability first. An insurance inquiry does not authorize a rollover.
