VA Disability Life Insurance Options for Veterans
A VA disability rating does not automatically mean you cannot get life insurance. It does mean your options should be compared carefully: VGLI, VALife, private term, permanent coverage, and policies with living benefits may all play a role.
Start with guaranteed and government options
Veterans with significant health issues may value coverage options with easier acceptance. VGLI and VA-backed programs can be useful when private underwriting is difficult.
Private coverage m a y still be possible
Many veterans with VA disability ratings can still qualify for private life insurance. The result depends on diagnosis, medications, stability, age, tobacco use, and overall health.
Living benefits can matter
Private policies may include living benefits that allow access to part of the death benefit after a qualifying critical, chronic, or terminal illness. For disabled veterans, this can be an important comparison point.
Do not assume one carrier speaks for all
One decline does not mean every carrier will decline. Different carriers view military history, PTSD, sleep apnea, orthopedic injuries, and disability ratings differently.
Best next step
Compare government continuation coverage and private underwriting before canceling anything. The goal is the most protection at a payment you can keep long term.
