Exploring retirement income or annuities?
Start with your goal
Explore the annuity questions that matter to you
Choose a topic to see what it means, what to compare and which questions to bring. You do not need to choose a product.
Explore fixed-rate annuities and MYGAs
A multi-year guaranteed annuity (MYGA) specifies an interest rate for an initial term. It may be worth discussing for money you can leave in place while keeping an accessible reserve elsewhere.
What to compare: Compare the guaranteed term, withdrawal allowance, surrender schedule, any market value adjustment, and the insurer behind the guarantee.
Questions for your conversation
When might I need access to this money?
What happens at the end of the guaranteed term?
How would this compare with a CD or keeping the money accessible?
Understand a fixed indexed annuity (FIA)
An FIA credits interest using a contract formula linked to an index. You do not own the index. Credited interest may be limited by a cap, participation rate or spread, and can be zero.
What to compare: Compare crediting methods, changing strategy terms, fees, withdrawal rules and surrender charges. Protection from direct index losses does not eliminate other contract costs or withdrawal losses.
Questions for your conversation
How is interest credited, and which terms can change?
Are there strategy or rider fees?
What could I receive if I withdraw early?
Compare ways to create retirement income
Immediate or deferred income annuities and some FIAs with income riders can address income needs. The payment start date, single or joint coverage, beneficiary choices and access to money affect the comparison.
What to compare: Compare contractually guaranteed payments, income timing, rider costs and liquidity. An income benefit base used to calculate payments is different from cash you can withdraw.
Questions for your conversation
When do I want income to begin?
Should payments cover one life or two?
What access and beneficiary benefits would I keep or give up?

How we research annuity options
First Freedom Life uses Annuities Genius to research product features, compare income options and review illustrations. We confirm current terms and availability for your situation before discussing a specific contract.
Educational guide reviewed October 16, 2026. This guide does not display live rates or provide a personalized quote.
Guarantees depend on the issuing insurer. Fees, surrender charges, withdrawal limits and taxes may apply. Annuities are not FDIC insured. Exploring these topics does not submit a form or book a call.

GIA & annuities: build your retirement paycheck
Start here if you want dependable retirement income or a place for conservative savings. These annuity NotebookLM guides explain fixed indexed annuities (FIAs) and multi-year guaranteed annuities (MYGAs).
FIA: Protecting Retirement Money From Bad TimingHow a fixed indexed annuity can act as a protected bucket beside IRA, 401(k), CD, or savings money.
How FIA Index Crediting Actually WorksCaps, spreads, participation rates, and the tradeoff between principal protection and index-linked interest potential.
MYGA vs CD: Locking a Multi-Year RateCompare guaranteed annuity rates against CDs, high-yield savings, tax deferral, liquidity, and surrender periods.
Where MYGAs Fit in a Safe-Money PlanGuaranteed growth, tax deferral, and beneficiary planning for conservative money that does not need full daily liquidity.
What does GIA mean for your review? Guaranteed income annuity planning starts with the retirement paycheck you need, when it should begin, and whether it must cover one life or two. We compare available income options, money you can still access, beneficiary provisions, fees, and surrender terms. FIA and MYGA are not interchangeable with lifetime income: an FIA links interest crediting to an index under contract limits; a MYGA guarantees a rate for a set term. Lifetime income requires the appropriate payout option or rider, where available. Guarantees depend on the issuing insurer’s claims-paying ability.

The Trifecta — Modern Life Insurance
Life insurance can combine death-benefit protection with optional living-benefit riders and, in some permanent designs, cash value. Exact features, costs, eligibility, and guarantees vary by policy.
Pillar 1
Death Benefit
The foundation of life insurance is a death benefit paid to the named beneficiary when a covered claim is approved. Death benefits are generally income-tax-free under current federal law, with exceptions, and beneficiaries decide how to use the proceeds.
Generally income-tax-free under current federal law, with exceptions
May help replace lost income
Can help beneficiaries address debts and mortgage payments
Pillar 2
Living Benefits
Some policies include living-benefit riders that may allow early access to part of the death benefit after a qualifying critical, chronic, or terminal illness. Definitions, eligibility, limits, charges, and the resulting reduction in death benefit vary by rider.
Access requires a qualifying event under the rider
Proceeds may help with income or care needs
Availability and benefit amounts vary by policy
Pillar 3
Cash Value
Some permanent policies can build cash value under contract terms. Growth is generally tax-deferred under current federal law; policy loans accrue interest, reduce available value and death benefit, and can create lapse or tax consequences if not managed carefully.
Tax-deferred growth under current federal law
Policy liquidity is subject to available value and loan provisions
Crediting, charges, and loan treatment vary by contract
Cash Value Life Insurance — Liquidity & Protection
Cash value life insurance includes whole life and indexed universal life (IUL). These permanent policies can build cash value under their terms. We compare protection, costs, funding needs and access alongside your goals; Infinite Banking is a separate strategy we can review.
The Strategy
Policy Liquidity & Cash Value Access
For qualified policy owners, cash value can create a private liquidity source through policy loans. This is not for everyone, and the structure matters. The goal is control, protection, and flexibility — not hype.
Access cash value when the policy is designed and funded correctly
Keep protection in place while using policy liquidity
Use tax-advantaged policy loans when appropriate
Only move forward if the numbers and qualification make sense
The Fit
How the Right Policy Design Gets Chosen
Cash value is the category; the actual structure depends on qualification, budget, risk tolerance, and how the policy will be used. We compare the options on the call and only recommend a design if it fits the person in front of us.
Protection first, cash value second
Funding level matters more than hype
Policy loans must be understood before using them
The best design is the one the client can safely maintain
What Happens After Your Call
If you choose to move forward, the next steps depend on the life insurance or annuity option and the carrier’s requirements.
1
Your Strategy Session
We review your goals, existing coverage or accounts, budget, and when you may need access or income.
2
Compare Your Options
We compare suitable life insurance or annuity options, including guarantees, illustrated assumptions, costs and access limits. You review the tradeoffs before deciding.
3
Application & Carrier Review
If you apply, requirements and timing vary by product and carrier. Life insurance may require health underwriting; annuities require applicable suitability and funding reviews.
4
Policy or Contract Issued
Benefits begin only when the carrier’s approval, your acceptance and required funding conditions are satisfied. The issued life policy or annuity contract controls coverage, values, access and any income payments.
Answers to What's Holding You Back
We've heard every concern. Here are honest answers to the most common ones.
💼 "I already have life insurance through work."
Employer group coverage may be limited and may end when employment changes. A personal policy is portable and can remain in force if its premium and policy-value requirements are met.
💰 "What will this cost, and how much would I need to commit?"
We compare premiums or purchase amounts, ongoing charges, surrender terms and the money you need to keep accessible. The amount and commitment depend on the product and your goals; reviewing options does not obligate you to buy.
🤝 "I need to think about it / talk to my spouse."
That's completely fair. Bring your spouse to the call — we encourage it. The more people who understand the strategy, the better. We'll walk through everything together.
💪 "What if I need access to my money?"
Access varies by policy or contract. We review available cash value or withdrawal provisions, loan interest, surrender charges and possible effects on benefits or taxes before you decide.
🔍 "Is this permanent life insurance a scam?"
Permanent life insurance is a regulated insurance product, but it is not suitable for every goal or budget. Compare contract guarantees, non-guaranteed illustration assumptions, premiums, charges, loan provisions, funding requirements, and lapse risk before deciding.
⏳ "What if I don’t know which option I need?"
Start with your goals, current coverage or accounts, and timeline. We can compare cash value life insurance, Infinite Banking, annuity options and protection needs without assuming you need a particular product.
